Life After Uni : Navigating the Uncertainty of What's Next.

Where it all began....

I came to realize that, we all joined uni and college with very different perspectives altogether, some did so out of curiosity, their mentality being, "Let me see what this fuss about uni and college life is all about." and some were forced by guardians and relatives but they really didn't want to, some went just so they could be like their peers, others used that opportunity to search for freedom out of their home, and finally others went so that they can pursue their dream careers ( I'm gonna be honest this last group always amazes me.)

I'm out of school now what?

Now that we know why most of us went to uni and college, Can we agree that most of us didn't get a clear picture of what life out of school really looks like? What pisses me off is that people are not vocal enough to talk about the confusion, depression, and the struggle that comes with trying to figure out what's next?. 

Some will try to tell you this,  but they do it in subtle ways that aren't very helpful. They'll say things like "You finish school and join us, it's tough out here, and you will struggle." Okay, all this is true but why is no one really talking about it entirely and authentically, and why is no one sharing how it is okay to feel confused and you'll eventually find your way. But I quickly came to realize that most do that because they believe that if they suffer you also have to. (Such a sad state of thinking, be better people‼️) 

We are NOT the Same...

So let me give you some tea, after graduating, one thing you have to be aware of is that, life changes and you'll all go ahead and do different things. I've categorized them into 4.

1. Some will go back to school either to pursue another totally new career path or just to continue with the current one.

2. Some will find a job or an internship after or before finishing school that aligns with whatever they are studying.

3. Some will get jobs that don't align with what they studied and toiled for.

4. Finally some will still be trying to figure things out in general.

This category is to show you that, there's nothing like you are SUPPOSED to do this or that after school a big HELL NAW. This is just a simple reminder that people are going to follow different paths and face different struggles. Of course, it's not easy but be easy on yourself.

Choose your own path unapologetically...

You know, it's funny how people feel so entitled to dictate what you should and shouldn't do with your life, some will say but we paid for your tuition fees, but we came to your graduation you have to listen, and do what we say, to me that's total BS. Some will even go ahead and force you to continue studying and you literally don't want to. Honey trust me, all this and more will be present.

But you have to choose your path intentionally, putting you at the front line of making these decisions. Be ready to disappoint so many people, that's okay don't please people at the expense of you. I mean IT IS YOUR LIFE.
Don't wait for applause and approval from people, because honey you'll wait, wait, and waaaaiiit. The right people that God will align you with will get you and will support you but it has to start with you.

I feel stuck and it's embarrassing...

Honestly, the feeling of being lost, stuck, or asking your fellow peers where they are at in life, and finding out most if not all have a clear image of what they want or have already established what they want, can be somewhat embarrassing. You are not alone. Of course, some will literally lead you to a sad state of mind intentionally and you'll end up embodying the song by doechii and Issa Denial is a River ( the breathing part.)

But in all seriousness, feel it, don't fight it most importantly, don't dwell in it. What I mean is, embrace the season you are in and find the little things you can do for you that will encourage you to see the next day. As we have said before, choose your path don't compare or compete with anybody. Do what works for you even if it doesn't make sense to nobody‼️.

Some final words to you dear, right now I know it feels so overwhelming but you'll figure it out. Don't let anybody's expectations of your life make you live inauthentically because honeeeeeeeeeeey they wouldn't do it for you.
